Life-Size Dollhouse by Heather Benning

2008-07-23-dollhouse.jpg

Anyone planning a summer vacation in Saskatchewan? As you know, we have a slight dollhouse fetish so even though this art installation is a few years old, we thought you'd get a kick out of it. Canadian artist Heather Benning transformed an abandoned farmhouse into a life-sized dollhouse.

2008-07-23-benning.JPG

The worn exterior of the two-story structure was largely left untouched except for the replacement of one exterior wall with Plexiglass to provide a voyeuristic look into the home akin to a typical dollhouse. Benning has decorated the inside with furnishings from the 1960s, the decade in which the farmhouse was abandoned.

The Dollhouse was finished in 2006 and we aren't able to determine if it's still on view. If you're in Saskatchewan, swing by and find out - it's located off of Highway 2 near Sinclair.

this is weird....

Reborn Babies

2008-07-29-reborn1.jpg
This is not a real baby, though it bears an eery resemblance. Reborn Babies are incredibly life-like dolls that can even come with a heartbeat and are being marketed towards collectors, as well as grieving parents or nostalgic grandparents.

2008-07-29-reborn2.jpg
The dolls are also weighted so that they actually feel like a baby. Apparently, holding them can be therapeutic and release certain feel-good hormones. They're not cheap- some ranging from $400 to over $3,000.

The images here are from Reborn-Baby.com, the website of UK artist Deborah King.

You can read a full article on the Reborn trend here. We have to file this under disturbing.

French Flash Cards Are Très Magnifique!

i love these flash cards! i have to get them!

from the article......
more than 44 percent of you speak other languages besides English with your children, so why not add another?

After reading educational experts suggest using flashcards to spruce up comprehensive and help children prepare for the upcoming school year, I was pleased to find this charming French flash card set ($14).

The pack is perfect for practicing your Français and pretty enough that it could be used to help decorate your crib once your child has learned all the vocab words.
